Girl:
Reflection
The story does not include any names for the
characters, but we can assume that the person who is being spoken to is a girl
as the speaker makes references to how a girl should behave. A phrase that is
constantly repeated in the story is “the slut you are bent on becoming” this
can give us an idea that the speaker of the story is concerned about the
appearance of the girl she is speaking to. Throughout the story the main point
or topic is what this girl is suppose to do in her life and how to do it she is
very strict in her instructions and orders them to be followed. In some parts
of the story the girl speaks answering to the person who is giving these
instructions but she never addresses her directly and is almost as if she was
ignoring her to some point, the only moment in which the speaker directly
speaks to the girl is at the very end of the story when she is asked what type
of women she is going to be.
What I can say about this story is that I believe that
it is not from present times and that the girl who is being spoken to could be
being prepared for Sunday school and that is why she is being given all these
instructions as this could be her first encounter with the outside world. The
concern for her not to look like a slut is could be to cause a good first
impression on those that she will be meeting with in this new stage of her
life. The way that the girls replies to the speaker is a very shy tone in fact
she barely responds at all as if she was not allowed to speak these are sings
of a very strict household and it has had an effect on the girl.

An excellent reflection.
